Artist Statement

Hi there! My name is Lise Dumas Richard, I am an acrylic painter and potter in Fredericton NB, Canada. Words that describe my art I would say are; whimsical, colourful, and textured. For my paintings, whenever I start a piece, I generally start by creating an abstract that is inspired by music. I will then either continue finishing up that abstract or I will paint an image on top of it, and use that abstract as the background. The music that I was listening to, while creating that piece greatly influences my colour choices and the movement in my art. I bring these similar techniques to my pottery pieces, by playing with the surface designs, often texturing the pots with carvings and paintings.

I love creating and trying various art forms. Although I regularly paint and make pottery, I have been making my own patterns for rug hooking and knitting, I sew, make videos and love doing photography, I have done lino and silkscreening. The list goes on, all in all, making art makes me happy! Please follow me on my social media to see my pieces as I create them.

Artist Bio

Lise Dumas Richard grew up in Bathurst, NB, and now resides in Fredericton NB. She studied Fashion and Fabric Surface Design at the College of Craft and Design in Fredericton, and later graduated from the Toronto Metropolitan University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Visual Communication. 

Lise worked as a graphic and web artist for the Calgary Board of Education. She also offered volunteer art workshops for children in the classrooms, worked independently as an artist, and taught painting classes to children, adults and teachers. Her painting style is fun and whimsical, featuring bright colours and textures that reflect her positive and easy going attitude. In 2023 Lise’s main art form slowly switched from painting to pottery. Lise has found a way to combine her painting with pottery, by creating functional pots with her surface designs of carvings and painted images.
