Artist Statement

Hi there! My name is Lise Dumas Richard, I am an acrylic painter in Fredericton NB, Canada. Words that describe my paintings I would say are; whimsical, colourful, and textured. I usually have some added mediums in my paints to give a 3D effect to my pieces. Whenever I start a piece, I generally start by creating an abstract that is inspired by music. I will then either continue finishing up that abstract or I will paint an image on top of it, and use that abstract as the background. The music that I was listening to, while creating that piece greatly influences my colour choices and the movement in my art.

Painting has been my main art form, although I am always creating in many other mediums as well. I have been making my own patterns for rug hooking and knitting, and I have recently renewed my love of hand building and throwing pottery, I sew, make videos and love doing photography, I have done lino and silkscreening. The list goes on, I love creating and trying new things. Please take a look at my gallery to see the paintings that I have created over the years.

Artist Bio

 Lise Dumas Richard grew up in Bathurst New Brunswick. Fredericton became her permanent residence, after having lived in metropolitan cities as well as smaller cities across Canada. No matter where she has lived, she likes to explore all that the area has to offer.

Lise studied Fashion and Fabric Surface Design at the College of Craft and Design in Fredericton, NB. She later graduated with a degree in Fashion Merchandising Communication from the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson Polytechnic University). She worked as a graphic and web artist, and in 2004, she began offering volunteer art workshops for children in schools. One of her big volunteer projects was in 2009, when she prepared mini workshops for every classroom at École des Bâtisseurs. The resulting artwork was used to decorate for the Christmas concert. 550 kids participated in this project.

In the fall of 2010, Lise began to teach art, as well as focus full time on her own artwork, working independently as a painter. Her painting style is fun and whimsical. She paints with textures and bright colours, which all reflects her positive and easy going attitude. Lise loves hiking, traveling, and of course, making art.
